The SLV Mannheim with its experts and testing equipment provides craftmen's businesses and industry with the solution of almost all problems arising in welding engineering and metallography. This comprises e.g. examination and testing for surface welding, soldering of titanium an welding of cast components. The use of welding robots or underwater plasma cutting are just as much a sphere of activity as problem oriented scientific work for electron beam welding. Research work and tests with an Electron-Beam-welding machine as well as with a Nd:YAG and a CO2-Laser unit in the multi-kW range with CNC-guidance system safeguard the lead in technical know-how also on the sector of Electron-Beam- welding as well as Laser Welding, of cutting and material treatment. The extension, development an optimization of common technologies and techniques complete the sphere of activties. All research work is oriented at practical requirements and is carried out in cooperation with firms and University Institutes (e,g., the Fraunhofer Institute, University Karlsruhe).
